Mention tap dance and most people’s eyes glaze with images of black and white movie replays of Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, maybe there’s a flash of a Tap Dog in a flannelette or a Billie Elliot leap.
But not us here at Ruby TV.
So…from July 13th-19th we will join over a hundred tap dancers from all over the world in Barcelona for the week to participate in the 2nd annual Tap On Festival.
How do these people earn their living? Where do they perform? Why are they passionate for this classic art form and where is tap at today? How does dancing tap physically and psychologically affect us? Where can we see it, what can we learn through it and where can we find the best beginners’ classes elsewhere?
It’s going to be hot so we’re packing beach gear and sandals to rest our feet between classes while conducting interviews with the talent who include Sam Webber, Lane Alexander, Mireia Font, Pol & Daniela and Roxane Butterfly and more.
We’ll chat with festival director, Basilio González, attend the festival related performances, sip a cava or two and open our ears at the networking events and be right there at the jam sessions where the hoofers will trade steps and beats with live musicians in the heat of the Catalan summer nights.
Stay tuned to Ruby TV as we get closer to the festival and for the program visit the Tap On Barcelona site .
