Australia celebrates Turkish cinema

The Turkish Film Festival has opened with a gala event featuring live music by the beautiful and talented Behiye Suren, Turkish canapés by Efendy restaurant, Turkish wine and of course some Turkish Delight.

Running in Sydney and Melbourne until 16th July, the festival is supported by ATMA- The Australian Turkish Mutual Alliance who seeks to develop the strong Australian and Turkish bond.

Opening film was from renowned Italian-Turkish director Ferzan Özpetek-  Rosso Istanbul (trailer below). Other films featured during the festival include Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s  Palm d’Or winner Winter Sleep, Fatih Kaymak & Binnur Karaevli’s The Eye of Istanbul and Luis Gonzalez’s culinary travelogue The Turkish Way.

A highlight of the festival will be the presence of Chef Maksut who is featured in The Turkish Way. Maksut will arrive in  Sydney to join a panel with Turkish- Australian chef Somer Sivrioğlu and food scholar David Dale to discuss Turkish cuisine and the film. (6:00 pm film on Thursday 13 July, 2017 at Palace Cinemas, 99 Norton St, Leichhardt. Ticket price: $20 adult $17 concession includes panel and film screening.)
