Interview Kath Shelper & Warwick Thornton,  producer and director of Samson & Delilah which is screening in un Certain Regard. They have been the darlings of  Australian film with loyal and loving cast, crew and family around them and it is not hard to understand why if you have seen the film which is a beautiful, real and touching love story set in central Australia but globally appealing. The story will be up on Screen Hub Australia on Tuesday. The story I wrote on their relationship for Take Two, IF mag 2007 is here.  They are both so wonderfully unaffected and are making everyone in the industry proud. They tell me why they made this film, what it means for it to be in Cannes and what they are feeling inside this swirling bubble of a festival.  My story for Screenhub will be be coming up…

Fortunately Kath is caught up in a film and is late, which gives me a chance to chat with Beck Cole and find out a little about her documentary on the making of Samson & Delilah which will be aired on Australian television in November 2009.

Mark Ruse, Ruby Entertainment

Catch up with Mark Ruse from Ruby Entertainment, obviously attracted by the name.  He is here with three film projects, but for now the scoop is:Ruby Entertainment produced Foxtel series on the Comedy Channel a brand news 8 part series from Monday 25th May, 2009.

Whatever Happened to That Guy? stars Peter Moon. “It’s a comedy series taken from his real life as somebody who was once famous (when he was part of Fast Forward and on top rating Sydney radio), then for the last five to ten years been doing ‘nothing’,” says Ruse.  Filmed in Melbourne it revolves around Peter, playing close to himself, and his family.

Mark being the original producer of Fast Forward, is close to the story. “We hope it gets a huge audience so we can do a second series,” he says.

First episode ‘Sicko’, Monday 25th May, 830. Comedy Channel, Foxtel

Un Certain Regard Prize Ceremony

Un Certain Regard Prize Ceremony

Back UP films party is a nightmare outside and gorgeous inside. More on that soon. And last night at the Mexican party that ended in a Splash (that was the sound my phone/camera falling!). The press office is closing and need to file…

The Certain Regard Prize ceremoney was tonight. The suspense was nerve wracking even for me and I have nothing to do with the films! The Samson & Delilah team were downstairs; but tonight the prize went to Greek film Dogtooth which screened afterwards. Special Prize went to Iranian film No One Knows About Persian Cats, French film The Father of my Children and the Jury Prize to Romanian film Police, Adjective
